“Living Plastics” aims to generate design solutions and alternatives through recycling of constructive materials, specifically plastic bottles and shipping containers. The ecological strategies used are based on the “inverted pyramid model” by Luis Garrido which leads to greater environmental benefit at lower costs compared to other models. The use of plastic is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective approach that reuses a mass-produced material in a way that is meant to generate habitability and creativity. Coupled with the use of solar panels and storm water collection, this design aims to be highly sustainable by using every resource and raw material possible by reusing and closing material life cycles.

Not only is the re-use of 6815 bottles of plastic and 4 shipping containers environmentally friendly and cost-effective, but it also sets a tone of educational language through materials. Using recycled materials and conventional hand-crafted methods allows people to become aware of consumer waste issues and creates a deeper understanding and appreciation of practical work and material use, resulting in more profound connections to a place.
